SUMMARY:Consortium for the Prevention of Suicide
DESCRIPTION:On September 10th\, 2026\, join us at The Old Library\, Lloyds of London\, for World Suicide Prevention Day.  admin@cpscharity.org.uk \nThe event will focus on the theme\, “Start the Conversation\,” aligning with the global movement led by the World Health Organisation to change the narrative around suicide. \nWell be discussing how organisations can double down on the work they need to do towards adopting BS 30480\, the British Standard on Suicide and the Workplace from BSI – The UK’s National Standards Body (NSB). \nThe agenda also brings together an incredible range of lived experience voices and topics: \n❇️ Progress and action through a technology lens\n❇️ The role of focus groups in shaping decision making\n❇️ Why BS 30480 should be part of your workplace culture\n❇️ What businesses could be doing on disclosure\n❇️ The direct correlation between domestic abuse and suicide. \nPreventing suicide isn’t the responsibility of one profession or one person\, it’s something we all have a part to play in.

SUMMARY:Change the Narrator: Give the Floor to the Protagonist of the Social Scene
DESCRIPTION:For many years we have acted as translators of the pain suffered by individuals who are silenced by society. However\, no one is better suited to speak of pain than those afflicted by it. Starting from this point\, and after three decades dedicated to caring for people at high risk of suicide\, NEPS – the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide – concluded that\, to “change the narrative about suicide\,” and therefore produce systemic change\, we should begin by changing the narrator. Proposing\, as the theme of its campaign\, “Changing the narrator: give the floor to the (prot)agonist of the social scene!” This alteration of positions in the discourse would provoke a change in perspective and\, consequently\, a greater probability of transforming society’s and governments’ perception of suicide. \nIn this way\, it is assumed that the words of those who are submerged in extreme psychic suffering will have a greater possibility of reaching people in general and\, in this way\, promoting a deeper reflection on this suffering that has been denied for centuries due to the stigma that has been perpetuated in the consolidated view of these individuals. Hearing about suicide from the voice of those who have decided on death\, and not from their interpreters\, has an infinitely greater chance of awakening in society a more empathetic\, respectful\, and humane perception within society regarding those living this reality. \nIn 2026\, in allusion to World Suicide Prevention Day\, NEPS will hold the Seminar: “We/Knots” “in/of” the Network: Interactions in Care – in mental health and suicide prevention. \n“We/Knots”[1] “of/on” the Network: Interactions in Care – in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention” \n[1] In Brazilian Portuguese\, “Nós” has a double meaning: “we”  and “knot\,” and in the title it alludes to our place in the support network and to the “knots” that prevent the proper functioning of the networks. \nThis event will continue the campaign “Changing the Narrator: with the word\, the (prot)agonist of the social scene” and aims to give voice to those attempting suicide\, caregivers of those attempting suicide\, and survivors bereaved by suicide to recount their experiences in the care networks: RAPS Network (Mental Health) and SUS Network (General Health)\, promoting dialogue with the Mental Health Coordinators of the state and municipality and representatives of institutions that defend civil rights. \nThe event’s main objectives are: to allow NEPS users\, caregivers of users\, and survivors to recount their experiences as users of care networks (networks full of nodes) to mental health coordinators and representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office of the state of Bahia\, so that\, based on these accounts\, dialogue can be facilitated. between the parties\, especially by connecting the two extremes of the care networks: management with the end user\, in a situation still shrouded in prejudice\, suicide\, in addition to giving civil rights representatives the opportunity to be close to and listen to those whose rights they represent. \nThe Seminar will feature two roundtables: the 1st composed of suicide attempters who are NEPS users\, the Mental Health Coordinator of the State of Bahia and a representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Bahia; The second panel\, in addition to caregivers of those attempting to conceive who are users of NEPS and bereaved survivors\, will include the participation of the Mental Health Coordinator of the Municipality of Salvador and a representative from the Public Defender’s Office of the State of Bahia. \n– Preceding the 1st Panel: \n“THE AFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN HUMANS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: KNOTS THAT BIND HUMANS TO MACHINES AND UNTIE THEM FROM THE REAL WORLD.”   Soraya Carvalho. \n– Following the 2nd Panel: \n“HOW NEPS UNTIES KNOTS AND TIES BONDS.”  Maira Oliveira. \nClosing: \n“ART(CULA)[1] TIES BONDS AND UNTIES KNOTS”\, \nART Presentations by NEPS users \nConclusion: \nWE WILL CONCLUDE THE EVENT WITH A GATHERING FOR WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY. \n[1] How NEPS articulates art with conventional treatment\, through the users\, we will show the effect of art on the mental health of the users. \nThis Seminar aims to improve listening skills\, strengthen bonds\, and expand the shared responsibility of the care network and public bodies responsible for upholding citizens’ constitutional rights. \nTo this end\, on September 10\, 2026\, we will once again give voice to those who for so many years have had their pain censored\, suffocated\, and silenced. The unique aspect of this year’s proposal is that their voices will be publicized on platforms accessible to the general public. This means that\, beyond the need to speak openly about suicide (as proposed by the Yellow September Campaign)\, we need to listen openly about suicide! \nNow is the time for society and governments to listen to them and include them in discussions\, taking into account what the protagonists of the social scene say about suicide and its prevention\, so that\, together\, we can develop effective actions and public policies that address the needs and desires of those who have chosen death as an escape. This is because we understand that for a suicide prevention policy to be effective\, it is not possible to do so without listening to those for whom the policy will be built. We believe that in this way it is possible to produce a significant reduction in the number of deaths by suicide. \nThis event\, with the testimonies of users and the discussion with representatives of the civil rights will be recorded and made available on YouTube\, with the express and signed authorization of all participants in the event\, especially the users\, whose interest is that their words be broadcast on the networks of the general public and thus reach civil society and government officials. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Wereld Suïcide Preventie Week
DESCRIPTION:World Suicide Prevention Week 2026\nFrom 7 to 13 September 2026\, extra attention will be given to suicide prevention across the Netherlands. More than 500 organisations throughout the country will be organising activities. \n113 is also using this week to raise extra awareness of suicide prevention. And that remains urgently needed: every 45 seconds\, someone in the world dies by suicide. In the Netherlands\, more than 1\,750 people die by suicide every year – an average of almost five people every day. We can only bring these numbers down by working together. \n85\,000 ribbons for suicide prevention\nMore than 500 organisations are helping to make suicide prevention visible through the campaign ‘Wear the ribbon\, carry it together’. These include municipalities\, Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs)\, hospitals\, educational institutions and mental health care. \nTogether\, we carry the cause.\nTogether\, we talk about suicide.\nTogether\, we start the conversation. \nBy wearing the ribbon\, you show that this is something we carry together\, so that no one has to carry it alone. More than 85\,000 yellow orange ribbons for suicide prevention have been ordered. To wear or to give away. \nDuring World Suicide Prevention Week\, two campaigns will be launched: one aimed at middle-aged men and another aimed at all the people close to those experiencing suicidal thoughts. \nAsking the question can save a life\nAsking the question can save a life. You do not have to get it perfect. What matters is that you ask the question. Hesitate\, stumble over your words\, feel awkward – just be genuine. You may help someone break through their silent struggle. \nFor this campaign 113 works together with municipalities and Public Health Services. Through a wide range of channels\, the campaign encourages people across the Netherlands to ask the question when they are concerned about someone. Of course\, asking about suicidal thoughts can feel daunting. That is why the campaign consistently refers people to 113’s free online JustAsk training\, which helps people learn how to start this conversation. \nMore information: devraagstellen.nl \nMiddle-aged men: Solving it yourself starts with 113\n113 is launching the campaign ‘Solving it yourself starts with 113’. The campaign focuses on men aged 40 to 70 and addresses a persistent belief held by many men: that they should solve their (mental health) problems on their own. 113.nl \nSuicide rates among middle-aged men are higher than among other groups. At the same time\, this group is the least likely to seek help from 113. Through this campaign\, we hope to change that. \nKick off at Football club Vitesse\nTalk\, ask and listen: on Friday evening\, 4 September at 8:00 pm\, football club Vitesse and the municipality of Arnhem will quite literally kick off World Suicide Prevention Week with a powerful initiative aimed at breaking the taboo around talking about suicide. 17\,000 supporters will be encouraged to start the conversation with one another. Find out more. \nA selection of activities during World Suicide Prevention Week in the Netherlands\nWalk into the Light at more than 80 locations\nWalk into the Light brings people together to walk from darkness into light. Across 85 walks throughout the Netherlands\, people will pause to remember everyone who has died by suicide. \nAt the same time\, the walks offer space for recognition\, connection and support for people who have lost someone to suicide\, those affected by suicide\, and people who are themselves struggling with suicidal thoughts. It is a powerful moment of connection\, remembrance and hope. \nThe walks are an initiative of the Suicide Prevention Centre\, organised in collaboration with almost 100 organisations and made possible by the 113 Fund. Walkintothelight.nl \nMan in Mind Meetup – Arnhem Region\nOn Wednesday evening\, 10 September\, the municipality of Arnhem\, surrounding municipalities and 113 will host the Man in Mind Meetup. For the fifth year in a row\, the event centres on sharing the stories and experiences of middle-aged men from the region. \nAt Vitesse Papendal\, host Patrick Lodiers will be joined by guests including sports psychologist Bram Meurs and former serviceman Pieter Blonk. Arnhem.nl \nMusic as an Anchor at Pakhuis de Zwijger\nIn 2025\, we created the 1K Z1E J3 campaign together with rapper ‘Krulle’. One year later\, ‘Krulle’ remains just as committed to his mission of making suicide something we can talk about openly. \nMusic can help us find the words. Music can provide something to hold on to. That is why\, on Thursday\, 10 September – World Suicide Prevention Day – ‘Krulle’ will take to the stage at Pakhuis de Zwijger. Together with close friends\, he will show and share the power of music\, and how it can help us find new glimmers of hope when life feels at its darkest. dezwijger.nl \nPodcast series with Sophie van den Enk\nTogether with presenter Sophie van den Enk\, we have created a five-part podcast series in which people with lived experience and professionals share their stories. A new episode will be released every day during World Suicide Prevention Week. \nAcross five episodes\, the series explores a range of topics related to suicide prevention\, care and recovery: aftercare following a suicide attempt\, the power of asking one question\, bringing lived experience closer to local communities\, the impact of social media on suicidality and recovery\, and the impact of providing support where people need it most. wspw.nl \nSuicide Prevention Conference: Stronger Together!\nOn Tuesday\, 9 September 2026\, our conference will bring together more than 600 professionals and people with lived experience who are working to put – and keep – suicide prevention on the agenda within their organisations and sectors. \nThe conference will take place in Apeldoorn in The Netherlands and offers a broad and diverse programme. events.113.nl \nDiscover more initiatives and view the full programme at wspw.nl
