SUMMARY:headspace Schools & Communities - National Online Event
DESCRIPTION:headspace Schools & Communities are excited to host an online event for secondary school students across Australia\, to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day. \nWe are delivering our Let’s Talk About It: Mental Health workshop\, hosted by our Mental Health Education Program (MHEP) Consultants. \nThe session will support young people to: \n\nUnderstanding mental health and wellbeing\nBreak down stigma about mental health\nManage their stress\nLearn ways to support themselves\n\nWorkshop times \nThis online event is being offered to secondary school students across the country\, so please take note of your time zone below: \n\nVIC/NSW/ACT/TAS/QLD – 1.00pm-2.15pm\nSA/NT – 12.30pm – 1.45pm\nWA – 11am – 12.15pm\n\nRegistrations close Wednesday 3 September 2025. You will be unable to register after this date. \nFrequently Asked Questions \n\nHow will this online event be delivered?\n\nThe event is being delivered online via Microsoft Teams and will be streamed live into classrooms. Please speak with your IT departments to ensure you have access to the Teams online platform. We ask that teachers log into the sessions and stream the online event via a projector for all students to view as a group. \nPlease do not share the Teams link with students to log in individually using their own devices. \n\nWhat technology do we need?\n\nTo participate in the online event\, you will need access to Microsoft Teams\, a projector and speakers\, to livestream the session. \nYou will also need access to the Teams chatbox via a keyboard to actively engage with the discussions. Should your students also wish to engage verbally with the wider group\, access to a functioning microphone will be necessary. \n\nDo we have to have our cameras on?\n\nWhilst it is not compulsory to have your cameras on\, we encourage that you do where possible\, to support engagement and connection with other groups in the session. This can also support our MHEP consultants to engage with your students and to see what is happening in each classroom. \nWe understand that local school guidelines or internet connections may limit whether your group can have their cameras on. \n\nWhat if the time slots sit between two periods? Can we adjust the time of the online event?\n\nThis online event is being offered to classes across Australia so we are unable to shift the times. We recommend setting up a separate space in the school with staff supervision\, for class groups to attend the online event between lesson times. \n\nHow long will the online event run?\n\nThis online event will run for 1hr 15mins. 60 mins for content and activities and 15 mins at the beginning to ensure everyone can log in and ensure their technology is working. \n\nHow many classes can register from my school?\n\nAny class at your school from Yr 7-12 is welcome to join us for our online event. Your classes are welcome to register separately or together as a whole cohort. As above\, if the time slots don’t fit with your timetable\, we suggest setting up a separate space in the school with staff supervision\, for class groups to attend. \n\nWhat happens if the online event is full?\n\nIf the online event is full\, please register for the waitlist on Eventbrite\, in the event another class cancels their registration. \n\nWhat is my role as a teacher during the online event?\n\nTeachers are required to supervise the students and manage behaviour throughout the session. We also ask that they support the group to engage and actively participate in the event discussions and activities. \nIt is also important for teachers to monitor the wellbeing of students throughout the session and check in on anyone who they feel may have been impacted by the event content. \n\nWhat mental health topics will the online event cover and what if one of our students has recently been impacted by a tragedy or other critical incident?\n\nThis online event will discuss general mental health and ways to manage stress and tough times. We also promote help-seeking and encourage young people to reach out to their families and teachers if they need any support. If you’re aware of a student in your class who may find these discussions upsetting\, please speak with their families and give them the option to opt out. \nIf your school has recently been impacted by a critical incident or suicide death\, please connect with the Be You team in your state or territory for support. Please click here to find contact details for each state and territory. \n\nWhat if my class misses out?\n\nThere are limited spots available for our online event. Please register for the waitlist on Eventbrite\, in the event that another class cancels their registration. If you are unable to join us\, please feel free to visit the World Suicide Prevention Day website which includes resources for you to explore.

SUMMARY:Indigenous Knowledge & Life Promotion: Changing Narratives on Suicide Prevention
DESCRIPTION:September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. On this day\, people will gather in communities across Canada and around the world to show support for suicide prevention efforts\, to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have died by suicide\, to comfort those who grieve the loss of a loved one to suicide and to strengthen connections and community together. \nThe Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) is marking this day by hosting a free and live\, virtual event entitled\, Indigenous Knowledge and Life Promotion: Changing Narratives on Suicide\, featuring guest speakers Elder John Rice and Lindsay DuPré. \nJoin Elder John and Lindsay as they share insights into how Indigenous Knowledge can shift perspectives on suicide. Elder John is a third-degree member of the Three Fires Midewiwin Society and Elder/Knowledge Holder at Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services. He has an incredible ability to weave and harmonize Traditional Knowledge and Teachings into mainstream work. Grounded in her lived experiences as a Métis scholar\, mom and auntie\, Lindsay will explore how our relationships with Knowledge shape our wellbeing and our sense of community liveability. Her presentation will highlight the rigour of Indigenous Science and its potential for shaping life promotion strategies. \nLife promotion is rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems and cultural teachings\, and shifts the narrative from crisis response to one of hope\, healing and empowerment. At its core\, Life Promotion is about celebrating life. Rather than focusing solely on suicide prevention\, it embraces a “language of life”—a strengths-based approach that emphasizes belonging\, meaning\, purpose and hope. This philosophy aligns with the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework\, which recognizes that wellness is deeply connected to culture\, land\, spirituality and community. \nFollowing the presentation\, there will be a Q & A and closing segment\, with attendees encouraged to participate in a “Global Candle Vigil” by placing a candle in their window to “Light a Flame of Hope” at 8:00 pm in their respective time zones. \nThis WSPD event will be held on Wednesday\, September 10th\, 12:00-1:30 PM ET and registration is required (link below).

SUMMARY:Changing the narrative: Recognizing suicide risk in a stigmatized world
DESCRIPTION:Suicide is not the result of individual weakness – it is shaped by the world we live in. \nIn recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day\, this free\, trauma-informed virtual workshop invites us to change the narrative around suicide by deepening our understanding of how risk is created\, and how it can be reduced. We’ll unpack the hidden signs of distress in people who may appear “fine” and explore how stigma\, silence\, systemic barriers\, and our own reactions can either increase or alleviate someone’s risk. \nThrough reflection and practical tools\, this session challenges the myths we’ve been told and highlights how connection\, validation\, and community care are powerful resources for survival. \nThis is more than education – it’s a collective shift in how we see\, support\, and stand with those in pain. \nWednesday\, September 10\n12noon to 1pm\n$0 per person\nOnline \nIn this webinar\, you will: \n\nLearn how systems\, stigma\, and social responses influence suicide risk\nRecognize warning signs that often go unnoticed\nUnderstand how your words\, actions\, and assumptions impact others’ mental wellness\nExplore how to support people in ways that promote dignity\, agency\, and hope

SUMMARY:Cycle Around the Globe 2025
DESCRIPTION:Suicide is a major public health problem with far-reaching social\, emotional and economic consequences. It is estimated that there are currently more than 700\,000 suicides per year worldwide\, and we know that each suicide profoundly affects many more people. Suicide remains a critical global issue\, affecting individuals and communities worldwide.\nIASP’s World Suicide Prevention Day event\, Cycle Around the Globe\, is back for the eleventh year running to raise awareness of suicide prevention worldwide. Cycle Around the Globe is a virtual event; for anyone\, anywhere in the world to participate by taking part in physical activity. \nFrom World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) until World Mental Health Day (10 October) 2025\, we are asking you to cycle\, walk or run to help us work together to prevent suicide. Our goal is to enable global participation\, which is why the event is entirely free to join\, and fundraising is optional. \nIASP leads the global effort in suicide prevention\, and this event offers a meaningful way to raise awareness during World Suicide Prevention Day and the lead-up to World Mental Health Day. \nBy cycling and sharing your journey\, you contribute to changing the narrative on suicide\, inspiring open conversations\, and breaking down stigma. Together\, we can foster understanding\, build supportive communities\, and encourage action at all levels—individuals\, organizations\, and governments—toward a world where suicide is preventable.

SUMMARY:Letters I Didn't Send - 24 hour Livestream
DESCRIPTION:Hello\,  I am a lyricist who uses AI to bring my words to life. I have recently completed an Album called “Change the Narrative” based on the current theme of World Suicide Prevention Day. I have released the title track (https://youtu.be/ncZjnIcaZNA) with the full album being released on September 10th. The reason I am reaching out is to talk about September 10th. I will be hosting a 24-hour livestream where the music from the album will be played\, and just have a space for anyone who wants to come hang out\, talk\, and just not be alone.  The livestream link will be posted to the changethenarrativeevent.com when it is available. Also available on the site is a wall where people can share their stories of how suicide has impacted their lives. Whether it is the thoughts of taking their own life or how the suicide of a family member or friend affected them.
