DESCRIPTION:Long San is a settlement in the interior of the Baram District of Miri Division\, and SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai is the main residential secondary school. This school serves the indigenous communities in the area and surrounding settlements. \nThe Miri Division Health Office\, along with Hospital Miri\, is conducting this selective prevention programme at this secondary school for the youth and teachers in an underserved area. \nThe aims of this programme is to encourage awareness of their own health\, including coping and risk behaviours\, to promote better self-care among the youth. The programme comprises a series of didactic and hands-on activities for the young people\, ranging from topics of physical and mental health\, gatekeeper skills and coping strategies. There is a concurrent programme for teachers on stress management at work and helping young people in crisis. \nThe programme will be evaluated for acceptability and effectiveness. We hope that our aims tie in with the overarching theme of changing the narrative for World Suicide Prevention Day.

SUMMARY:World Suïcide Preventie Week (WSPW) - The Netherlands
DESCRIPTION:From 8 to 14 September\, the Netherlands marks World Suicide Prevention Week (WSPW) — a week devoted to raising extra awareness about suicide prevention. Sadly\, this remains urgently needed: every 45 seconds\, someone\, somewhere in the world\, dies by suicide. In the Netherlands\, suicide claims the lives of more than 1\,850 people every year\, which equals five lives every day. These numbers will only go down if we do this together.   \nFinding the words.\nTalking about suicide isn’t easy\, and searching for the right words can be difficult — but it can make a life-changing difference to someone struggling with suicidal thoughts. How do you start that conversation? What words do you use? It may take courage and some searching. That’s why this week we call on everyone: find the words. Because with words\, we can help each other. Will you join us?  \nThroughout the week\, a variety of activities and campaigns will take place across the country\, including:  \n\nWearing the suicide prevention ribbon \n\n\n44 “Walk into the Light” walks throughout the Netherlands \n\n\nHappy Little Moments activation campaign \n\n\nSamen Sterk conferences (11 September) \n\n\nDaily webinars \n\n\nSuicide prevention trainings \n\n\nSchool tour \n\n\nMan in Mind Meet-up \n\n\nFundraising activities for the 113 Fund \n\n\nAwareness campaigns \n\n\nHundreds of initiatives in the Netherlands \n\n

SUMMARY:The Evolution of Mental Health in Construction – Building for the Future
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few years\, we’ve made significant inroads into mental health awareness in the construction industry. We’re talking about it more openly. Attitudes are shifting\, behaviours are improving\, and understanding is growing. But the journey is far from over\, with suicide rates in the sector still one of the highest. \nMental health isn’t just about raising awareness or signposting support. It’s about creating people-first cultures\, improving daily work experiences\, and designing environments where everyone can thrive. \nSo\, where are we now? And where are we heading? \nWorkshop aims: \nJoin us for a strategic and interactive online workshop where we’ll explore the current landscape and future direction of mental health in construction. Together with your peers\, you will: \n\nReflect on how far we’ve come.\nIdentify the key challenges and priorities we still face.\nShare insights\, strategies\, best practices and experiences.\nIdentify\, discuss and agree how to align your legal duty of care around stress management with bottom-line business performance.\nHelp shape the path forward to reduce suicide in the sector.\n\nWho should attend: \nWhether you’re a leader\, HR professional\, site manager\, or advocate\, this is your chance to help build a healthier\, more supportive future for everyone in construction. \nHost: \n\nMartin Lockham\, Head of Engagement\, Mates in Mind.\nStephen Haynes\, Wellbeing Consultancy Director\, British Safety Council.\n\nPlease note: \n\nIf you are interested in this workshop\, but do not work in construction\, please email support@matesinmind.org\, including the title of the workshop in the subject line and the sector you work in in the body of the email and we will put on additional events if/when we have sufficient registered interest.\nIf you would like to submit a question before the workshop\, please send it to: support@matesinmind.org before 1pm on Monday 1 September and include the name of the workshop in the subject line.\nWe recommend early booking as places on this workshop are limited and will be allocated on a first come\, first served basis.\nOnce you have booked a place\, please block the time out in your diary. You will receive an invitation to join a Teams call a week before the event.\nWe will also send an email 24 hours before the workshop to confirm your attendance. This is to allow those on the waiting list the opportunity to attend should you not be able to.\nIf this event is full\, please add your name to the waitlist. We will email you 24 hours before the workshop if there are any remaining spaces. If we get sufficient numbers on the waitlist we will put on an additional session and will invite those on the waitlist to join it.

SUMMARY:Holding Space: Beginning Conversations on Understanding Suicide Prevention
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10)\, this workshop\, HOLDING SPACE: Beginning Conversations on Understanding Suicide Prevention\, invites participants to reflect on suicide not as a matter for professionals alone but as a shared human concern. Drawing on clinical\, community\, and educational experience\, the session seeks to bridge the gap between care and confidence—helping participants move from uncertainty to compassionate readiness. Through myth-busting\, recognition of warning signs\, ethical engagement\, and careful referral practices\, we will explore how ordinary acts of listening and presence can be life-affirming. The workshop emphasizes that while it is not a substitute for therapy or clinical training\, it provides an ethically grounded\, culturally sensitive space to build awareness\, deepen understanding\, and strengthen the collective capacity for prevention. \nThe certificates which will be provided to participants do not represent a clinical qualification; rather\, it acknowledges the courage and commitment to engaging with one of the most difficult yet vital topics in mental health.\nFor Professional / Healthcare Audience: “This workshop is intended as an educational program on suicide prevention. While we will discuss about evidence-based approaches\, this session does not replace formal supervision\, crisis intervention protocols\, or confer any additional clinical qualification. Please view it as a supplement to your professional learning\, not as a certification to independently provide suicide-specific interventions beyond your current scope of practice.” For General Public / Student Audience: “This workshop is designed to raise awareness and build basic skills in recognizing warning signs and connecting people to help. It is not therapy\, it does not provide clinical training\, and it does not qualify participants as mental health professionals. SUMMARY:"MINK UŽ GYVENIMĄ" Challenge
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Vilnius – Europos Žalioji sostinė 2025 – we organized a physical activity challenge via the Strava app (https://www.strava.com/clubs/1392393/group_events/2134990). As part of the initiative\, participants were invited to trace the shape of a bicycle – the symbol of suicide prevention – on the map\, creating a powerful visual message through movement. Every kilometer walked\, run\, or cycled symbolizes support for those affected by suicide risk. \nParticipants have the opportunity to win invitations to the final commemorative event. \nSeptember 10 – Two-Part Commemoration Program: \nPart I: PRESS CONFERENCE \nTopic: “Support for those bereaved by suicide – a vital part of suicide prevention.”\nThe conference will focus on how to ensure systematic\, accessible support for individuals who have lost loved ones to suicide – and how such support contributes to overall prevention efforts.\nExperts in the field will share insights and experiences working with bereaved individuals\, as well as different forms of effective support. \nDuring the conference\, we will also present findings from a representative national survey exploring the importance of suicide prevention in today’s context. The study investigates: \n\nAccess to emotional support\nExperiences with suicide-related disclosures in one’s close environment\nPublic responses to recognizing suicide risk\nAwareness and availability of prevention resources\n\nPart II: FINAL COMMEMORATIVE EVENT – STAND-UP “PRASMEI IR BEPRASMYBEI” \nFor the second year in a row\, we invite the public to explore this important topic through art.\nThis unique stand-up show delves into life\, loss\, and mental health as a means to raise awareness and foster empathy.
