SUMMARY:Let's talk about... men and suicide event
DESCRIPTION:Too many men are struggling in silence. This free community event is a powerful opportunity to come together\, hear real stories about suicide\, and learn how we can all play a part in helping to prevent it. \nYou’ll hear from voices across our community—including speakers from The Neuk\, The Samaritans (local branch)\, the University of Dundee\, and the Health and Social Care Partnership. Join us for an open and honest panel discussion about why talking really can save lives\, and connect with local suicide prevention partners in a relaxed\, world-café style space. \nWe’ll explore the support available locally and break down common myths around suicide and mental health. Most importantly\, this event is about building stronger connections in our community. Because when we talk\, listen\, and stand together\, we can make a real difference. \nDate and time\nMonday 1 September 2025 6pm to 8.30pm. Doors at 5:30pm \nLocation\nNorth Inch Community Campus\, Gowans Terrace\, Perth\, PH1 5BF

SUMMARY:1333 Bikeathon “RIDE TO SAVE LIVES”
DESCRIPTION:PURPOSE:\nThe aim of the 1333Bikeathon “ride to save lives” campaign is to create national awareness of the 1333 toll-free phone number 1333 and raise funds to sustain and expand its operations. The ultimate aim of 1333 is to prevent suicide in Sri Lanka through Crisis Support. \nThe 1333Bikeathon “ride to save lives” is a cycle ride over 1333 kilometres around Sri Lanka. The duration of the ride is 13 days\, where riders will complete an average of over 100 kilometres each day. The 1333Bikeathon is not a race\, and anyone\, whether they are casual\, frequent or professional riders\, is encouraged to participate. \nRIDE DETAILS:\nThe ride will start on 29th August from Independence Square in Colombo and conclude on 10th September at Independence Square\, followed by an event to welcome the riders and commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day. There will also be several events to welcome the riders and create awareness at each destination throughout the ride. \nA special candlelight ceremony will be held on 10th September for World Suicide Prevention Day. This ceremony is to remember the loved ones and to celebrate life with the survivors of suicide. \nREGISTRATION:\nThere will be a nominal registration fee for riders\, and meals and accommodation is organised at cost. Registered riders will have an opportunity to raise funds towards the 1333 operations through an online fundraising platform accessed via the www.makeadifference.lk website. A certificate of participation signed by Ambassador Kumar Sangakkara will be awarded to all registered riders and volunteers. \nMEDIA AWARENESS:\nThere will be a coordinated effort for media awareness through our print and electronic media partners\, social media\, website and launch event. During the past 1333Bikeathon campaigns\, call rates increased by an average of over 75% mainly due to the extensive media awareness created by our print and electronic media partners. A detailed media plan for the campaign is aimed at achieving media coverage throughout the Island.

SUMMARY:Holding Space: Beginning Conversations on Understanding Suicide Prevention
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10)\, this workshop\, HOLDING SPACE: Beginning Conversations on Understanding Suicide Prevention\, invites participants to reflect on suicide not as a matter for professionals alone but as a shared human concern. Drawing on clinical\, community\, and educational experience\, the session seeks to bridge the gap between care and confidence—helping participants move from uncertainty to compassionate readiness. Through myth-busting\, recognition of warning signs\, ethical engagement\, and careful referral practices\, we will explore how ordinary acts of listening and presence can be life-affirming. The workshop emphasizes that while it is not a substitute for therapy or clinical training\, it provides an ethically grounded\, culturally sensitive space to build awareness\, deepen understanding\, and strengthen the collective capacity for prevention. \nThe certificates which will be provided to participants do not represent a clinical qualification; rather\, it acknowledges the courage and commitment to engaging with one of the most difficult yet vital topics in mental health.\nFor Professional / Healthcare Audience: “This workshop is intended as an educational program on suicide prevention. While we will discuss about evidence-based approaches\, this session does not replace formal supervision\, crisis intervention protocols\, or confer any additional clinical qualification. Please view it as a supplement to your professional learning\, not as a certification to independently provide suicide-specific interventions beyond your current scope of practice.” For General Public / Student Audience: “This workshop is designed to raise awareness and build basic skills in recognizing warning signs and connecting people to help. It is not therapy\, it does not provide clinical training\, and it does not qualify participants as mental health professionals. The aim is to empower you to support others through listening\, compassion\, care and referral to appropriate services\, not to take on the role of a clinician.\nRegistration link :\n\nhttps://forms.office.com/r/Mg7g1TiNBm \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants can expect to co-create understanding related to the following** \n\nMyths with understanding\, warning signs.\nContextual underpinnings and build confidence in everyday contexts.\nHow to stay present with someone’s pain while acknowledging the limits of one’s own role.\nSafety planning for self and others as well.\nBridge the way toward professional help for those in need.\n\nInternationally and nationally endorsed suicide prevention-related resources will be shared. \n\nEthical & Safety Grounding \n\nAll discussions will be guided by established ethical frameworks of suicide prevention.\nTrigger-awareness will be maintained\, with grounding and self-care breaks.\nCrisis helpline numbers and referral pathways will be provided at the beginning and end of the session.\nParticipants will be encouraged to engage at their comfort level\n**The certificates which will be provided to participants do not represent a clinical qualification; rather\, it acknowledges the courage and commitment to engaging with one of the most difficult yet vital topics in mental health. \n\n\nFacilitator\nSudhanya Roy Chowdhury\nClinical Psychologist (RCI)\nIndividual with Lived-Experience\nProfessional Member\, Clinical Psychology Society of India\nThis workshop is hosted under “CoCreation – A Mental Health Care and Academic Initiative” \nRegistration Fees\nFor students and individuals who are not employed currently from LMIC: 149 INR\nFor professionals and service holders from LMIC :399 INR\nFor students and individuals who are not employed currently from HIC: 6 USD/ 5 Euro/ 4.5 GBP/500INR\nFor professionals and service holders from HIC: 12 USD/10 Euro/ 9GBP/1000INR\nFor further fee-related discussion feel free to connect over email/call/ text\nLet’s hold space\, together. \nRegistration link: http://bit.ly/3Vc1fhP

SUMMARY:"MINK UŽ GYVENIMĄ" Challenge
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Vilnius – Europos Žalioji sostinė 2025 – we organized a physical activity challenge via the Strava app (https://www.strava.com/clubs/1392393/group_events/2134990). As part of the initiative\, participants were invited to trace the shape of a bicycle – the symbol of suicide prevention – on the map\, creating a powerful visual message through movement. Every kilometer walked\, run\, or cycled symbolizes support for those affected by suicide risk. \nParticipants have the opportunity to win invitations to the final commemorative event. \nSeptember 10 – Two-Part Commemoration Program: \nPart I: PRESS CONFERENCE \nTopic: “Support for those bereaved by suicide – a vital part of suicide prevention.”\nThe conference will focus on how to ensure systematic\, accessible support for individuals who have lost loved ones to suicide – and how such support contributes to overall prevention efforts.\nExperts in the field will share insights and experiences working with bereaved individuals\, as well as different forms of effective support. \nDuring the conference\, we will also present findings from a representative national survey exploring the importance of suicide prevention in today’s context. The study investigates: \n\nAccess to emotional support\nExperiences with suicide-related disclosures in one’s close environment\nPublic responses to recognizing suicide risk\nAwareness and availability of prevention resources\n\nPart II: FINAL COMMEMORATIVE EVENT – STAND-UP “PRASMEI IR BEPRASMYBEI” \nFor the second year in a row\, we invite the public to explore this important topic through art.\nThis unique stand-up show delves into life\, loss\, and mental health as a means to raise awareness and foster empathy.
