Charlie Cooper

Charlie Cooper is a research assistant in the suicide prevention research unit at Orygen, Center for Youth Mental Health, University of Melbourne. Currently completing his PhD at Monash University, his doctoral research examines the suicide-related social media experiences of LGBTQIA+ young Australians. This work seeks to understand how social media settings could best be used for the purpose of LGBTQIA+ youth suicide prevention activities. Charlie is currently training as a school psychologist and has over eight years’ experience working in community youth mental health settings, previously holding positions at headspace, Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, and the Trans Health Research team at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. A strong focus of his work in the sector thus far has been around advocating meaningful and best practice youth partnerships in mental health research and clinical practice.
