Dr Luke T. Bayliss

Dr Luke T. Bayliss works at the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention, School of Applied Psychology at Griffith University; he is also a researcher for the International Association for Suicide Prevention. He has an advanced understanding of contemporary suicide theories within the ideation-to-action framework, but wants to expand on this to determine how climate change and its links with suicidality may be added to the framework. Dr Bayliss believes that a promising avenue for reducing suicide deaths is by preventing the development of or reducing an individual’s capability for suicide. He works towards this goal by collaborating and learning from those with lived experience, whilst using innovative methodologies to further understanding of the role of suicide capability in the movement from suicidal thoughts to suicide attempt. Dr Bayliss has been published in 12 peer-reviewed papers, 20 conference presentations, multiple reports, and his research has featured on the Hope Illuminated podcast.
