SAMH Presents: Applying a framework for preventing & responding to suicide
September 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 pm

A workshop guiding HR professionals and leaders in the implementation of the BSI Standard for Suicide and the Workplace
In November 2025 the British Standards Institution (BSI) published the first ever organisational standard for Suicide and the Workplace.
The standard provides a framework to equip workplaces to take an active role in suicide prevention, while also preparing them to respond to distress and death by suicide with confidence, consistency, and compassion.
Join us this World Suicide Prevention Day for this unique learning event that looks at how the BSI Standard for Suicide and the Workplace can be applied to your own workplace through a practical and action-focussed lense.
The workshop will:
- Build understanding of the importance of an evidence-informed approach to suicide prevention and postvention within the workplace
- Introduce a practical framework aligned with the BSI Standard for Suicide and the Workplace for organisations to assess current practice, plan improvements and measure impact
- Provide a collaborative space for attendees to share learning, explore challenges, and generate sustainable organisational actions
This session provides general guidance and interpretation of the BSI Standard for Suicide and the Workplace. This does not replace the official standard or professional advice offered by BSI.
Speaker:
Kirsty is a Workplace Training Specialist at SAMH with a background in Human Resources, training facilitation and frontline service leadership. She is an ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and Wave After Wave (suicide postvention) trainer and cares deeply about sharing key messages that promote life and recovery.
