The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) is proud to recognise ultra-endurance cyclist, David Maynard, for combining extraordinary athletic achievement with a powerful commitment to suicide prevention.
From 24-26 June 2026, David took on the Race Across the East (RAE) – one of the toughest ultra-cycling events in the United States. Covering 630 miles and climbing more than 40,000 feet of elevation, the race demands remarkable physical and mental endurance. David completed the course in an impressive 2 days, 12 hours, and 43 minutes, using the event as a platform to inspire hope and encourage conversations about mental health.
David’s dedication and determination were rewarded when he claimed first place in the Men’s Under 40 Solo category, crossing the finish line in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Completing the gruelling course also secured his qualification for the prestigious Race Across America (RAAM) – a milestone achieved on his second attempt at the event.
David dedicated his Race Across the East ride to the memory of friends and loved ones lost to suicide. Wearing a custom suicide prevention jersey in their honour, he used the challenge as an opportunity to raise awareness, inspire hope, and encourage anyone who may be struggling to know that help is available and that they are never alone.
Although the race has ended, the mission continues. David and his team are committed to growing this fundraising initiative and reaching even more people through future endurance events.
